JAR897
Hey all, Just wondering how compatible the iPhone is with the new Fiesta (Including the Technology pack - i.e. USB port). I persume I will need the cable which connects the iPhone to the USB and Mini-Jack?? Can someone with an iPhone and Fiesta (or someone who knows) tell me about it please? Thanks. I have the iPhone 3G and it works a charm insofar as bluetooth connectivity for the phone and the iPod part for the, erh, music. You'll need to get the Ford 'Y' adapter cable (expect to pay £20 unless you get it FOC). The Y cable allows music and its data to be played and displayed in the car. You simply connect it to the base of your iPhone and the cable then splits into the USB and 3.5mm jack parts to be plugged into the car. Simples. :P The steering wheel can then be used to alter the iPod volume and to change the tracks. The Y cable also charges you iPhone / iPod as you drive. JAR897
Ledgend. Thanks. Where can I get this cable from?
Truly55
Ledgend. Thanks. Where can I get this cable from? Your local Ford parts department I think it's possibly too new a part to get on fleabay but it's only £20 tops from Ford anyway. I can't remember the parts number but I just asked for the Y cable that connects an iPod to the new Fiesta.
JAR897
So it works with iPhone 3G then. Great :) So I would be able to play my music via iPhone, and then when a call comes in answer it (how?) talk to them while music is silent and then end the call at which point the music comes back up? Thanks. p.s. Is this it: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/audio_cabl...onnect_1086.htm
KeithC
The thought of plugging my phone in and then unplugging my phone every time I got in/out of the car would drive me mad, never mind actually doing it.
JAR897
As I say its my phone so I take it everywhere i go anyway. I also have a classic Ipod so I COULD use that instead. Either way, that's the way for me as all my freidnds have ipods too so by having the cable it allows others to bring their music into my car :)

I would say that, but I can plug my iPhone into my current vauxhall corsa via the 3.5mm mini-jack. The downside of that is that there is no control apart from the ipod itself. The use of a USB is that the device can be controled by the dash (i.e. steering wheel etc). The cable gives me the option to use my / other people's ipods/iphone into the car. I can still use a USB memory stick if I wanted, its just more convinient for me to use my phone as I cary it around everywhere and stuff. OK, explain to me, what is more convenient about plugging and unplugging something everytime you get in or out of your car? That is the bit I'm not understanding. Convenient it isn't. Plus, the cable is stiff and has been known to break the USB socket and there's nowhere to keep the !Removed! ithing. To be honest, Ford haven't really thought it out, the should have put the connections in the glovebox out of harms way.

Thats the truth, and im sure everyone will agree. As you said keith the cable is stiff and isnt long enough to fit in the rear cup holder and isnt short enough to fit in the front one!! Ford messed up with that for sure! My brothers wifes 207 CC has the iPod cable in the glovebox which is def the best place to have it... It looks from the picture like its just a USB to Ipod cable glued to a male-to-male mini-jack cable. Couldn't the cable just be made up? i.e. two seperate cables stuck together. The only downside to that would be that the ipod/iphone would have to go into two seperate ports - one in the ipod socket on the bottom, one in the headphone socket. As I said, its only convinient as I always have my iPhone on me, so it saves me aquiring another device to put in the car. Although the cost of the cable would be the same as a USB stick, but the cable allows my mates and OH to plug their ipods in instead. I think ill get the cable anyway. Do the ford dealers have them in stock at the dealerships?

As I get into the Fiesta I just plug it into the Y cable which stays connected to the car at all times. I don't know what's difficult about that. You can't though use 2 separate cables to connect to the car - it has to be via the pukka Ford Y cable. As Nipz said it's a crappy cable that is either too short to reach the rear cup holder and too long to place the iPod in the front cup holders. If the cable was a bit more flexible it would be better. If your local Ford dealer doesn't have the cable in stock they can usually get 'em the following day. I can see the benefit of dropping your music onto a USB stick but my 'ickle Nephew was in the car yesterday and he was made up that he could just connect his iPod into the Y cable and, hey presto, his music was playing complete with the music data on the cars matrix display. Twas a pity he's only really into Guns n' Roses, Velvet Revolver and BB King. If Slash hasn't played it he's not interested. I wonder if I could pay Slash to record some Doris Day tracks? JAR897
im going to get a cable... possibly modify it myself. (i.e. make it more flexible and longer). Also got a spare mini USB stick lying around somewhere.. So i get the best of both worlds. lol. Thanks.

You wouldn't believe who I have on my iPod but it includes plenty of Doris, Slipknot, Dolly Parton, Jimi Hendrix, Pat Benatar, and Ritchie Valens. I'm really muddled, me. Truly55
Very muddled - and isn't it Mrs Truly's car? lol :) Yeah, but I like to drive it. :P She loves it especially the iPod connection and heated screen
Bashful
I had the heated screen on my Ka - fantastic on a cold Scottish morning! Wish I had read more about the USB connection before I ordered mine, instead I just put the iPod on shuffle or a playlist. Not quite the same but it's ok. JAR897
HaHa very true. I have been thinking about it though... The iPhone will be useful as I cary it everywhere... consuquently i update it every night by plugging it into my computer to (A) Charge it (B) Update the playlists automatically. This way I can plug my iPhone into the car each time I drive, and have all my updated music. The USB is a good idea as you don't have to plug it in every time, but would have to update it manually. From my experience, (and IMO) prefer plugging in the Ipod / iPhone, as it isn't that much as a hastle, and as I said allows more flexibility with other friends music devices. Its all down to personal choice though. But by having the cable I have the option between the two methods. :)
Nipz
Oh, and anyone gets in my car, they listen to my music, if they don't like it, they can walk. :D This is also my golden car rule! I allow them to select from MY music but unless i say so no one elses music is to be played :) HaHa very true. I have been thinking about it though... JAR897
Its a title, so although Apple display it as iPhone, the english vocabulary laws deem it iPhone. Unless there is a hyphan present, which there is not. Is someone trying to be as picky / fussy as me?

JAR897
I know what its called, I have one. But the grammar, when conforming to strict english gramatical law, is iPhone.
