Upgrade To Sony 6 Cd

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I have a 2009 mondeo zetec with bluetooth and voice control. I want to upgrade from the stock Ford 6000 cd radio to a Sony from a 2011 titanium. Part number 7S7T-18C939-AF. Will this work for me as a straight swap? Thanks n advance.

Totally doable, question is do you want the one with single disc and MP3, 6 disc changer with MP3 or the same versions with DAB?

To retrofit DAB requires about £100 of upgrade parts (aerial/base/aerial wires etc).

I upgraded my Focus radio from a standard rectangular Visteon one to the single disc oval MP3 version that will fit in your car and it works a treat although my installed bluetooth system is aftermarket and not standard (OEM) as per your car.

I have heard of compatability problems with upgraded radios and OEM bluetooth but as the radio you are referring to is listed by Ford themselves as a recognised upgrade item I personally see no problems at all.

Basically any Sony radio listed under the 18C939 basic code will be compatible, it just depends on which level you want to go to.

Wow. Thank you very much for the very detailed reply. I will go ahead with just the 6 cd radio. Don't want to go down the DAB route yet.

Those Sony GEN3 radios are much nicer looking and chuck out decent sound too.

DAB is a fair bit more involved and IMHO more of a faff than necessary and DAB is pretty much crap TBH.

If I want anything other than standard radio channels I just connect my iPod to the internet via my phone or Mi-Fi and stream internet radio, far easier and cheaper plus you have access to all radio channels rather than about nine or ten generally available on DAB nowadays.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Not a big fan of DAB. Just want to get decent sound and a nicer looking HU.

They definitely look better than the Visteon units.

You won't regret it for sure.

Good thing with the MP3 as well is 6 discs equal forty or more albums to choose from.
