Removing A 6000 Cd Unit .. Keys Wont Work!

Featured Replies

Help! My fiestas head unit won't come out. One side comes out but the left left is stuck. The keys don't work, I've had people look at it and each try there keys but one just won't catch, I've tried to use a small flatness screwdriver but just damaged the surroundings, anyone know how to take it out any other way?

I only need the serial number! The hold 6+1 method doesn't work on mine.. brilliant!

Any help will be appreciated

Dave

I have a spare Focus fascia and locking frame from a 6000 radio at home.

I'll have a bit of experimental investigation when I am home tonight and report back to you.

That would be handy! Cheers

A couple of pictures so you can orientate yourself with the mechanism that locks the radio into the fascia.

If you were to push a thin knife blade (I used a steak knife and it worked very well as the blade is thin and strong/flexible) or one of the removal keys into the slot with the point up as close to the outer edge of the slot as possible you should be able to push the catch inwards enough to dislodge it.

I'd recommend unhooking the problem catch first to reduce the tension on it which can cause it to bind on the fascia and make removal more difficult.

Of course if the catch is damaged or the small lug is bent or missing you may still have problems.

Sounds exactly the same as my problem I had when removing my 6000CD radio, my solution was a very strong tug to the right as I had to bend the pieces of metal that locked the radio completely out of place then fixed them after when putting the radio back in.

All the best,

Liam.

It is also suggested you could try holding keys 2 and 6 instead.

Hello,

Joined the forum because of trying and more importantly succeeding to remove my 6000cd radio.

First of all, thanks to Stoney for the advice, in particular regarding the use of steak knives!

I got 4 removals keys online, thinking they were decent quality, but they turned out to be cheap n nasty buggers.

Now, it can get frustrating using the cheap removal keys, so my advice is-

1. Leave it for a bit. Maybe come back the next day...

2. Wrap the keys in plenty of tape so you can get a better grip, and they wont start to cut your fingers.

3. Gently pull out the 4 buttons nearest the slots. This will stop them getting scratched and importantly will give you a better sight of the correct position to insert the keys.

4. MAKE SURE THEY GO IN THE RIGHT HOLE! no sniggering... There is just a small slot where the keys get guided in.

5. If the radio has been removed before, or you have been trying for a while, the pins that push back the holding clip may not engage correctly. Then it is time to try the steak knives.

I shall post some pictures soon as well.

Inside the plastic hole there is a small metal slot where the keys have to go in
