Water Dripping When Engine Running

Featured Replies

Hi guys, Ive just noticed that there is water dripping from a metal pipe that connects to the water pump on my 1.6 tdci sport 07 plate, question is, how big a job is it to fix it....or can i do it myself or does it need special tools. Thankx for your responses.

Are you sure it's from the pipe and not dripping from the pump it's self and round to the pipe? The pump has a weep hole that breaks when the bearing goes pear shaped.

Tbh I can only see the water coming from where the pipe joins into some metal housing which I'm assuming is the water pump. About a month ago, i poured some stop-leak into the coolant tank and that stopped the problem but its started to drpp agin now.

I wouldn't have used that leak stuff it has a habit of cacking the cylinder water ways up, anyway how much leaking does it do? And as far as I know there aren't any pipes externally coming from the pump its pumped through the water jacket within the engine, it may well be the aircon pump or the power steering pump, check the power steering fluid level. And has the air con been used before checking the leak? And could you get a picture?

Stop leak causes more problems than it fixes mate if youve used it ide change the pump and have the system flushed the focus has more than one thermostat and stop leak can block some of the passageways ide never recommend using it and ive fixed enough cars that have to know its best to get the leak fixed and system flushed asap

Think it only Eco boost engine which has more the one thermostat in it

Nope all 2004 on have second thermostat in the y piece that connects the bottom rad hose to the water pump it blocks off water from the rad from entering the pump opening the bypass which sucks coolant from the expansion tank till the engine is up to temp

Interesting didn't know that is it proper thermostat or some sort bypass valve

Thermostatic bypass most people dont till it breaks or the car overheats and no one can figure out why simple plastic y piece but inside if you look in youre bay youll see the thick hose from yhe expansion tank leads to the y piece bottom rad hose goes to the other y section which then goes to a single hole to the pump its to aid quicker warm up times and has a small thermostat in it to block the rad out hose from putting water to the pump theres always water in the rad from after the main thermostat closes and the rad cant be dry or it will cause a vacume so it sits closed and the expansion only end open when the main thermostat opens the water will get to the set temp to open the valve and go to the pump

as mentioned on the other thread, I suspect you may just have a bad seal.

seal or the y piece needs replaced given you have to remove it to do the seal youre better off replacing the y piece its a different set up on the petrol but same idea theres a small thermostat in that y piece
