No they don't, my mum has a red similar colour to my Race Red. Her car is 2008 reg and there's no fade at all, they put something into the paint to prevent the fade happening now.

I wonder if what they add to the paint prevents them from making it metallic as you hardly ever see Red cars in metallic colours

Does anybody own a Red Zetec S 7.5 and have some good pics ?

Previous car was a red Zetec S but the MK7. Have a look at my profile for pics. Keep it clean, polished and waxed and it should be OK. I loved mine think red cars look really good and easy to find in car parks!
