No Sound On Usb Or Bt Audio

Featured Replies

Morning all

Finally got my ford USB BT cable yesterday. Plugged it all in except the mic cable last night.

But I'm not getting any sound from USB or BT. I've updated it fine to what I hope is the latest software but no sound.

Any ideas?

Andy

Not sure - my Bluetooth retrofit kit had sound out if the box. Do you have elm config? There are parameters in there for the voice control module that enable different levels of Bluetooth. Ie Bluetooth only, Bluetooth+voice, Bluetooth+voice+USB etc. Mine was already set to BVC high after I fitted it. Might be yours isn't set right

Lucky enough I've a mate lending me a bluetooth obd module Monday to change that setting. But I only thought that was for the VC part as how I understand it I'll need to update the Vin.

It knows the USB stick is there as it shows track ID same for BT. Just oddly no sound.

Did you retrofit the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system ? Did your car already have the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol wiring?

Cars which have the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol wiring pre-fitted do have a loop connector between the wiring. This loop connector connects some of the wires in the connector to eachother. Because the wiring with or without Bluetooth/Voicecontrol is a bit different there are a few different types of loop connector. Which type you need depends on a few factors like radio type, with or without Bluetooth/Voicecontrol, etcetera.

Basically the loop connector re-routes the AUX wiring. On a car without Bluetooth/Voicecontrol the AUX wiring is routed from the AUX connector directly to the radio. On a car with bluetooth/Voicecontrol the AUX wiring is routed from the AUX connector, through the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module to the radio. This is because the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module uses the AUX wiring to send the audio signal to the radio.

If the wrong loop connector is used there is no audio connection between the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module and the radio. If this is the case everything will work correctly but you will not have any sound of the Bluetooth.Voicecontrol module at all.

Excellent post JW your posts knowledge have really helped me understand the Bluetooth/USB/stereo system

Ffs. Ive a sony single cd radio.

As in my other post (bluetooth guide?) my car didnt have the bluetooth wiring. Yet did have the mic cable. Ive bought the bits i need to make it bluetooth VC USB enabled. And i installed the cabling last night. (still not connected the retrofit cable to the mic yet as no way on earth is it long enough to reach my mic.)

Keep the faith mate you will get it sorted in the end

It's driving me nuts lol.

More cash on more cables I didn't know I needed.

Wish I would if known. Could if picked it up yesterday from my mate at ford.

Just need to find out which one I need. I would assume the one in the retrofit kit?

There is no patch cable in the kit. I did however already have a patch cable fitted at the top of the glove box cavity and the cable from the aux socket terminates into it.

Isn't there an audio patch cable and a mic patch cable needed on some cars?

So you bought the retrofit cable from Ford? In this case there will not be a loop connector. The retrofit cable is directly connected between the radio/Quadlock connector and the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module. The loop connector is only present on vehicles which have the Original Bluetooth/Voicecontrol wiring factory fitted.

I suspect you have the wrong retrofit cable. the wiring of the old and newer Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system is different. Using the old retrofit cable on a newer Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module and radio will also result in no audio.

What part number has your retrofit cable? based on the part number of the cable I can determine it will / will not be the correct cable for your car.

The following wiring I made is based on the newer Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system with USB. This diagram is for the 6000CD, Sony and Travelpilot FX radio's. It may be useful for checking/measuring the wiring.

This is the diagram he gave me.

The cable that connects it all is part num 146152. £155.90

As in the diagram theres another cable num 10

So i have the wrong cable?

If so which one do i need? Part number?

That loom looks like its from an older focus. The diagram of the stereo looks like its for a mk2 not 2.5

Anyone able to get the correct part num?

I suppose you mean Finis number 1467152. Finis number 1467152 is definetely the cable of the old Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system. This cable is used for the Focus MK2 and very early MK2.5 models.

The retrofit cable of the newer Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system should be Finis 1667645. The Ford dealer should be able to confirm this.

If possible return the cable to the Ford dealer and order the correct one. If your current cable can not be returned it is possible to rewire the cable.

Got on the phone ot my mate. Its 2003 i think he said. Wrong one.....

Your finis number worked a treat. Bad news is. Theres only 1 in the uk. And hes emailed the dealer that has it. Hopefully still in stock. And going to see if they can send it up to him. And straight swap it.

Thanks for your help again gents.

Will keep you updated :)

Andy

Fingers crossed Andy let us know how this goes

Andys next stupid question.

Currently as far as i can tell both my mic and aux go to the radio. Or to the quadlock or what ever.

When my new cable arrives. Will the aux cable i currently have stay as it is? As in the diag above it goes from the socket where id connect my iphone for example stright to the BT module? Or does this new cable im getting have a connecter for it?

I know the mic goes to the cable as its got a connecter for it.

The retrofit cable has no connection for the AUX connector in the glovebox. The retrofit cable is connected between the radio and the quadlock connector so I suppose the AUX connector will remain functional.

The only problem I can think of is that if you are using the AUX connection and get a Phone call at the same time the sound of the AUX and Phone cal may be mixed. This can be solved by rewiring the AUX wiring. My experience is that if you have USB and A2DP you will never use the AUX anymore.

But the diag above shows the aux going directly to the bluetooth module?

Use the aux port after getting bluetooth/usb working? Awe hell no!!

My goal is to get the bluetooth and v/c working for incoming calls. And USB for my pen drive that will house all my music.

Ive also got a armrest console that has USB / Aux / power sockets. Ready to replace my current one that only has power.

But the diag above shows the aux going directly to the bluetooth module?

The wiring diagram I made is based on the factory fitted wiring. In this situation the AUX wiring is routed throught the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module. This is because when the AUX input is being used and you get an incoming Phone call at the same time the AUX input is switched of by the module. This way you will only get the sound of the module during a Phone call and not getting mixed audio from the Phone call and the AUX source at the same time.

On the retrofit cable the AUX wiring is not routed through the module. In this situation the AUX input (if connected) is connected parrallel to the Bluetooth/Voicecontrol module. If the AUX input is being used and you get an incoming Phone call at the same time the sound of the module and the sound of the AUX source may be mixed. This can be solved by not using the AUX input or rewiring the AUX wiring. Rewiring the AUX input can be done very easy using the AUX wiring of a scrap car and connect it directly to the Bluetooth.Voicecontrol module. This way you don not have to cut the Original AUX wiring.

Hello JW1982

i am having the same issue where I have upgraded my original Bluetooth module (no USB or Streaming) to one that has USB and Streaming.

My phone shows as connected but I get no sound in USB or Bluetooth at all.

Can you help me with this?
