Respraying Alloys Black

Featured Replies

I have new alloys on my car and wondered if I still need to rub em down or key em before spraying them with primer? The black paint?

Personally I would spend the money and get them professionally done as you will never get the finish like they do and it's baked on so it won't start to bubble like if you did it yourself inevitably it would I can recommend the wheel specialist they have a facility in the midlands reasonable prices as well .honestly for a new car you want it to look its best and you will just waste time and effort just for salt and water to ruin your efforts

If its to try a new colour or for winter id be tempted to try plasti dip first - im going to be doing my alloys with it soon :)

Why only for winter with plasti dip? Could you not do it for all year round??

Has anyone used this plasti dip?? Just watched a you-tube video and looks easy to put on and to take off if you don't like it??

Thoughts??

Yeh its fine all year around. I just ment that because a lot of people do it as a 'salt barrier' - have a search on here, there was someone last year did their wheels and a few bits of their focus

Im waiting for the UK distributor to get the 'glossifier' in stock and then im doing my summer 18s :)

What you think to matt black on my 18s?

If you are spraying your wheels I would recommend rubbing them down with fine sand paper I have painted a few alloy wheels before and it saves a lot of money I say go for it !!!

Gonna go for matt black plasti dip

I did my alloys in plasti dip matt black. They looked good a first but when I came to have some new tyres put on it caught the paint and all started to peel off. In the end I peeled it all off and got them powder coated instead

Gonna try plasti dip to see what the colour looks like and for a long term choice probably get them professionally done

If changing tires ruins the plastidip id suggest the fitters rig isn't too good?

But either way, £25 of spray isn't bad for about 20k of driving is it?
