I'm middle aged (ish ;) ), live in Lancashire, and my last 4 cars have all been Fords.

First was a 2.7 diesel Maverick, which went missing one night.

Next was a rather elderly, and somewhat distressed, petrol Mondeo, which was bought as an urgent replacement for the aforementioned Maverick.

Next was a diesel Focus estate, with 200k on it at purchase, due to it having been a taxi earlier in its life.

I am now the proud owner of a very tidy, 07 plate Focus 1.8 diesel, Zetec, Euro 4, Climate Pack, with a mere 70k on it.

70k is low?

For a 6.5 year old car, yes.

My annual mileage is around 15k so, if I'd had it from new, It'd be approaching 100k by now.

Welcome Bob. I have had a few 100k plus milers over the years and they were often the most reliable of cars, especially for the money.

My highest mileage was 96k on my Scooby. It was leaking oil all over the place so had to go.

Diesels tend to last for huge mileages.

The 200k+ estate I had, was still running well when I parted with it.

It just needed so much doing to it (oil leak, handbrake etc.) and it had a noisy drive train, but the engine was fine, and started 1st time, every time.

Considering the engine was cooked twice (limped home 20 miles along the motorway with a blown core plug, and again with a jammed thermostat), with the temperature needle banging the end stop, I'm amazed it ran at all. :D

I know that diesels make a lot of sense for you guys that do these high miles and I have had a couple in my time when the company supplied them. Unfortunately I just can't get used to them much prefer petrol, but each to their own.

What is there to get used to?

Apart from waiting a few seconds for the glow plugs to work, a modern diesel is no different to drive than a petrol model.

Just don't like the noise they make and the smell of diesel.

Don't get me wrong it's just my personal choice.
