New Focus Owner, Second Hand Car Few Issues/problems Noticed.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I recently bought a 2nd hand 01 ford focus 1.6 16v, its got 114000 on the clock, says in the service book it had a new cambelt at 80000 is there a relatively easy way of check the cambelt to see if this is true?

Also when you start the car it vibrates quite a lot inside and is quite loud when idling the revs sit at about 800 but when you rev to pull off the vibration goes away. is this normal with focuses?

Last thing is when driving along and I change gear when I let of the acceleration you get quite a loud drop in revs, I have never noticed it in any other car and it is noticeable in the focus. It has had a new exhaust. so maybe something linked to that.

Any help advice greatly appreciated

Thanks

Get the idle control valve checked out.

IIRC it's on the throttle body.

Vibration is likely to be an incorrectly fitted exhaust touching the underneath of the car somewhere usually goes away when being driven as the torque of the engine moves it away slightly but on idle it moves back seen this loads of times after a new exhaust has been fitted just needs adjusting slightly .

Thanks for the replies, spoke to someone at my work today and he also mentioned the exhaust. Any ideas about the loud drop in revs when I let of the acceleration?
