Mk6 Engine Cover Remove

Featured Replies

Attempted a spark plug change last weekend along with other basic service jobs, but really struggled removing the plastic cover from the top of the engine block....1.3l model and it has an amazing amount of clips around the edge, which even once they are all loosened the thing still wont budge!

Any suggestions to get it to budge?

Cheers

If its similar to the one on the zetec se engined mk6 you undo the front Bolts then give it a good hard pull, just make sure you disconnect the pipes first then yank it good and hard, it will either come off nicely or break. Good luck.

A little bit of WD40 on the rubber grommets where its attached, and alot of brute force.....got the bugger off!

Made sure it was properly greased up afterwards so hopefully next time will go smoother!

Haha, at least being tight it doesn't wobble and rattle all the time, I have seen one with a knackered clip and it rattles like a bucket full of pebbles. Well done.

I have enough rattles to worry about

Something right next to my head when driving, im sure I will figure out eventually what it is.

Also noticed the car is abit juddery when accelerating after changing gears...another investigation needed next weekend :(

If it uses the same clutch and gearbox as the se engined 1.4 and 1.6 I have a similar concern I put it down to the fact that the biting point is highish on these so it's harder to ease the pedal up slowly.

Could be right, Im not a fan of the clutch, I prefer most things from my old MG ZR. But hopefully it will grow on me.

Thanks for the help :)

I kind of thought my clutch was on its way out but the ST is like it, newer ones do it and the same models also do it, I am used to it now it's getting away from junctions with haste that it doesn't seem to be table to achieve I just cannot launch from a standing start at roundabouts and places like that, worse things happen at sea, haha
