Tailgate Gap

Featured Replies

Just wondered if anyone out there has a haynes manual to hand or knows first hand the recommended panel gap each side of the tailgate for my mk1

Just noticed that my tailgate has quite a sizeable gap and in fact looks like it's been off and put back on (badly)

theres no data im aware of is it as you say or has the striker plate been moved under the plastic boot panel are 3 bolts that when loosened can let the catch adjust left or right up or down alternatively it may be the hinges were undone at some point really its by eye they should be equal on each side

Does seem to be a couple of mil more on one side, going to take it to a garage tomorrow anyway, but will definitely have a look at those, cheers

Best thing to do is just balance by eye. my car was written off with the rear end before I bought it. they didnt fit the boot properly, I have manually realligned it, and its not perfect (maybe a mil more on the nearside) but its better than it was when they gave me it (brushing the lights on the offside!)
