Engine And Speedo Cut Outs

Basically my focus 1.8 zetec has an on going issue where the speedo would stop reading the speed and when this in fault the engine just cuts off. It does sometimes do it when the speedo is still working. I restart the engine everytime and it will drive for a bit longer then repeat the fault. Could someone list the possible causes or fix if its a known issue.

    Faulty VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) in the gearbox. Done a few of them.

    Good luck getting the pin out, invest in a decent pair of Vice Grips & a Blowtorch!

    could also be the faulty instrument cluster issue. do you notice any odd behaviour in the instrument cluster anytime?

    No only that the speedo drops off and it feels like a slight loss of power

    vss as said i had ford do mine or get a garage as the pin in mine snapped but that was fords problem to fix not mine wd40 and patience on the ones ive done gentle twists and pulls if it feels like it wont move more wd40

    +1 on the above done 3 of them on mine and my brothers car the pin was a right pain to get out

    If I remember you take of air box and pipe and it is a black sensor on top of the gear box

    Definite VSS symptoms.

    New ones with pins are about £20 from ebay.
