Focus Mk3 1.0 Ecoboost

Featured Replies

Hi,

I currently own an 05 1.6 VCT Zetec Focus and have since it was 2 years old.
I have had no issues with the car except for the usual rate of knots the car goes
through coil packs. Which seems to be due the length of the wire/connecter from
the ECU being too sort and under stress.

It is now getting time to change the car, now passed 90,000 mile mark and
looking tired. With the issue of the coil packs, it initially put me off
getting another Ford and I started looking towards the 1.4TSI mk6 Golf, but
since read up that this engine is rubbish with chain slipping/stretch issues
which I can do without as I tend to keep my cars into the 80/90k mileage mark.

So I am now thinking of getting the Focus MK3 1.0 EcoBoost (don't do the
mileage to warrant a diesel) It maybe too early to tell yet, but has Ford
sorted the Coil Pack issue on the new Focus?

Thanks in advance.

fords coil issue has existed since 1999 when the first focus came out and hasnt really improved since to be honest if its a known issue than maybe someone can confirm if the cable has since been changed or upgraded in anyway wouldnt buy a golf not as reliable as they say and very very dull to drive most vws are to be honest

Thanks for the reply, I am beginning to think the same about the Golf, I always thought they were bomb proof. After looking around, nothing is without issue's. I suppose the good thing with a Ford is not too expensive to fix if it goes wrong compared to other makes. Just wish they would sort this coil issue as I think the engines are pretty solid.

the vws are expensive to fix trust me my passat was bleeding me dry weekly despite full vw servicing and they certainly arent bomb proof they are very very dull though if in doubt give ford uk a call and enquire so far no one on here with the 1.0 ecoboost 2013 has made any comment on coil packs so it is entirely possible that part has been altered to counter the issue

Had a mk1 focus zetec on a 03 plate.

Never had any issues with the coil pack had done over 90,000 miles when i changed it last year .

Only issue was the fuel sender unit .
