Mk3 Focus Driver (Right) Side Drl Problem

Featured Replies

Hello all,

This is my first post on here, it looks like a well informed board and I hope someone can point me in the right direction with this small problem i have.

I have a 61 plate Focus Titanium X estate, which i have now had for 10 days. I picked it up for a good price at Dagenham Motors Woodford Green. It is a fantatsic car, I'm really over the moon with it.

I came from an Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce and compared to that, this Focus is so quiet, comfortable and well built.

I picked the car up on the 23rd and the next day, showed the guys at work, one of them noticed that the Driver Side DRL wasn't on.

I messed about with the lighting control dial and couldn't get it on. I then locked the car and unlocked and both DRL's came on, then the Driver side one went back off!

I took it straight to my local dealer, SMC in Northfleet and they looked at it and said it was a fault. i booked it in for them to look at, on Thursday 30th. However, literally from the day I booked it in until the day after SMC looked at it, it was fine!

Now it is messing about again.

It always comes on when the car is unlocked, and then goes out after maybe 20 or 30 seconds.

I wondered if its a parking light function? But surely that's on the wrong side of the car? Also it doesn't come back on if you then start the car or turn the headlights on.

I have to take the car for its MOT in September and because this DRL is also the sidelight, it will fail if it messes about on test.

Id like to go to Ford and maybe tell them something a bit more specific and hopefully lead them down a route that will get them to do something or change something rather than just look.

Has anyone had any similar experiences?

I have read about BCM's and from this site, I downloaded the Mk3 Focus wiring diagrams, and the headlamp units are controlled via the BCM. I am wondering if this is the root cause of my problem.

So, over to you guys... can anyone offer some advice?

I had a problem with mine a while back , so i took it in , they did a software update and that sorted it. The problem i had was a flickering N/S Drl.
