Upgrading Main Screen In Mk3? Possible?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Just wondering if it's possible to upgrade the black and blue screen in the Mk3 Zetecs to a colour one like on the Ford Accessories website. I'm finding it a bit dull, and in combination with a speaker upgrade, I think it would improve sound quality.

Will that fit in the Zetec or is there something smaller needed?

Thanks.

That looks like a double din unit, which would replace the whole stereo. I don't think it would fit as mk 3 has a totally unique stereo cluster. You would need something similar to the below, that is from the US which I'm not sure if is identical to UK cars but sure seller could help or perhaps give you a shop around for similar in the UK.

Let us know if you do upgrade and what you went for please.

Thanks

I replaced the standard Ford stereo in my MK3 with the upgraded Sony unit from the Titanium. Was (from memory) about £150 off eBay.

Gained the larger colour screen and improved sound quality despite leaving the speakers alone. The new stereo was totally plug and play with no codes or anything to worry about.

Just make sure you get the right version, mine is pre-sync so required a pre-sync Sony, cars with sync would need a compatible stereo :)

Can you give me an example of one on the Bay?

P.S Mine is sync

Doesn't appear to be any listed at the minute but keep your eyes peeled!

This is random. I just phoned through to my local Ford main dealer, and the lad in the service dept said he'd never seen it done, and doesn't think it can be done.

My guess would be that is the case as ford do not do/offer the upgrade.

But its doable? I found a website that sells the sony unit just need some help on which parts to buy lads

Thanks for the late nath, think I'm going to give that a go now I can see it's possible to keep all standard parts. Guess I start looking for the units. Was it just the sony system and screen u purchased and it was plug and play?

Also nath, my breakers yard has a 2013 focus ST with the nav and screen available. Would this still fit?

Ive had so many prices quoted over the past few days its mayhem. Anything from 150 to over 1500 quid (main dealer).

Nath's guide makes it look way too easy? If its that easy, why dont they offer it?

Mark, 150? What was that going to get you please mate?

Jack to be honest dude.

Nath's guide is the pictures from when we installed mine!

The nav one would physically fit but don't expect the navigation to work as it would need a whole heap of other parts.

This is a mod I would love to do but the units just cost a bit much atm and I change the car so regular.

I will be keeping me eye peeled for a bargain unit but until then I'm sad to say going to give it a miss haha
