You want to make sure it will pass mot with the way you do want to do it as most fail mot

The law changed in 2012 - HID kits became illegal for road use and your car will not pass an MOT.

If you want HIDs then you need to upgrade the whole headlight unit.

Go for the HID's if that is what you want you will not be disappointed they are much brighter with a beam pattern that projects further than normal halogen bulbs, I love mine.

The MOT/legality issue is one you will have to consider but it is simple enough to change back to halogens for your MOT so no risk of a fail.

Lot of folks on here will try to dissuade you from HID's because of the legal side but if you have projector lenses you won't be dazzling anyone.

But it isn't just about the MOT. You can still get stopped by the police and fined, as you can for any other obvious defect such as bald tyres, or illegal reg plates.

Which is why you're better off replacing the whole unit with Xenon headlights (which ARE legal), instead of using a cheap/nasty HID conversion kit, and driving about in an MOT failure for 364 days of the year.

Are these easy to pick up and ars they cheap and easy to fit? What models are they off?

All the above comments are true HID conversions are not legal. But, and there is always a but, I think these should be allowed if and I stress if, they are fitted correctly and you should be able to get them checked at a MOT station for alignment etc. After all who hasn't been blinded by halogens that are badly aligned? Or cars driving on full beams?

I have had HID's for over a year and have never been stopped by the police and never flashed for blinding someone. I will have to live with the consequences should the police stop me, but for something like this they will probably, but not definitely, give a notice to fix them and get that certified. Personally I can live with that, and I am not a 20 year old by any stretch of the imagination. The extra bright bulbs some folks recommend are as equally illegal as well.

These are the ones I currently have fitted but others are available on eBay, just make sure they are a UK seller and remember you get what you pay for,

A full xenon conversion with self levelling and washers will be prohibitively expensive. What I can't understand is why Ford don't offer xenons as an option especially on Titanium and other top end models.

I'm afraid you will never get folks on here to 100% support HID's and that is fine everyone has their own opinion about them. It is the individuals choice whether they want to take the risk/break that law, just like they do when they drive above the speed limit.

I wanted hid lights aswell but the cost of the proper way is too much and I didn't fancy having to mess about putting on and off kits so I decided to go back to osram night breakers which are 100% legal and they are very bright aswell

Agree some are legal but not all.

At the end of the day I still think it is personal choice although I am considering those for my main beam bulbs

They are good I've been using them for years there also brilliant on the country roads at night won't beat the hid but close enough match

I think I have used them before and they were okay about 4 years ago have a look on amazon I usually find good bulb deals there

Having looked on ebay its hard to see why people go down the ford upgrade route as the head lights alone are £100+ then you have the rest of the kit to buy, compared to a £30~£40 plug and play kit! Have some thinking to do I think!

Just buy some new bulbs from Halfords. I bought some bulbs which are 120% brighter than the standard bulbs and these are completely legal.

Works a right treat and would recommend them to anyway.
