St170 Runs Cold

Featured Replies

Hi There,

If any of you are able to provide support/advice in this matter below.

I have a focus ST 170 (2003)

Basically the issue I have is I can drive from Essex to Manchester before my car engine even warms to be narrowly off cold this includes the oil temperature gauge this only just narrowly moved off cold by the time I got to Manchester. Because it is running cold the fuel efficiency and running quality is poor and consideration being made to the damage this could be having

If anyone has had or has seen this problem advice would be welcomed.

Many Thanks :0)

Any other symptoms? It might just be the oil temp sensor at fault.

We have replaced the oil sensor. My engine management light is on due to the problem that's causing my car to run cold. But no other symptoms except that it doesn't run smoothly in the winter when it's cold in the summer the engine temperature mover up a quarter of the gauge so still didn't get overly warm and took half hr min to reach that and mainly when I was stuck in traffic.

It could be as simple as the thermostat being stuck open. How warm does the cabin temperature get?

Ditto above, or check the cooling fans are not running all the time.

Failed (or failing) water pump could also be a factor for cold running issues, also a blocked radiator.

Start with the cheapest - check fans are not running constantly, flush the cooling system including heater matrix, check for water flow to rule out failing water pump (remove expansion tank cap, carefully if warm! Rev engine slightly & if water enters back into the tank from one of the 2 small pipes at the front then water flow should be ok), replace thermostat.

Does the heater get warm inside the car?
