Battery Problems ?

Featured Replies

I noticed today after a 3 min drive I pulled over to check I had some forms, I noticed the battery light flick on twice then off ?

I've had a few mustarts lately where it took 2/3 goes but maybe twice a week that happens.

Does this sound like a battery issue or something else.

I've checked the 3 wires going in to the alternator for damage but all fine.

I didn't have a chance to put the multimeter on the battery as it started raining heavy.

Had a lot more drain lately with the heating on.

Just wondering what this sounds like ...

It's an 04 petrol focus 65k looks like an original motorcraft battery in aswell so could be worth a change.

My 55-reg Mondeo does this very occasionally, too - it always has, and I've had it over two years.

Mine's the original battery too, and the voltages check out OK with a multimeter. Calcium Silver batteries ain't cheap, so I'm just leaving it for now. If it starts to happen more frequently I'll whack a new battery in, then start looking at the alternator if it still does it. Right now the problem is so infrequent, that if I did change the battery, I wouldn't really know if that fixed it or not.

I had this problem on my 205 gti and it turned out to be a dodgy alternator cable. If the alternator isn't charging properly or the cables are in a bad way, then a perfectly good battery can end up screwed. Changing the battery didn't help me as it wasn't being re-charged properly.

Update just checked it on a meter, car off shows 12.43 idle 14.41

Looks normal to me ... But I put it on charge for 5 mins before saying full. Now the meter reads 12.73 car off and 14.04 idle so a bit worse on idle, not sure if this is due to the smart charge.

Good point about nit changing as this is the first time. I will keep an eye out for it.

Alternator cable is a good point to check. Added to list of suspects to check.

I guess I'm jumping on it as I rely heavily on it.

Thumbs up

silver calcium bosch batteries on ebay are less than £60 it may be a faulty cell in the battery

Popped in to halfords for a free battery test ans it came up as fine or good state. I'm nit sure how accurate they are. All he did was got me to put the dipped beam on engine off and his resting gizmo said it was ok. I'm nit sure they can point out weak cells.

Been running fine no light on or flickering. I will keep an eye in it but not a bad idea replacing an original battery from 04.

Sorry to waffle on Im a dog with a bone when things happen.

yeah the battery probably has a warped or dead cell and your seeing the early stages of its death! to be honest its lasted 10 years which is pretty awesome! but it will give you more grief soon enough. Just get yourself a bosch and replace it when the right deal comes up!

10 years must be a record! Lol .. Ive tempted fate long enough.

Thanks for the link art, ordered.

*thumbs up*

best I managed was a 7 year old original - the alternator died and so the battery died lol
