57 - 2.0 2.0 Tdci - Slight Drop Of Power Then Picks Backup

Featured Replies

I have a 57 2.0 tdci, with 40k on the clock, driving through gears 1,2 are good but 3,4,5,6 i can just notice a drop in power for a moment then picks backup, its hard to explain but its like power on and the off for .2 of second and then back on, I can hear a whoosh noise from the engine area, its sounds like a turbo but i am not sure. At a constant speed the car is acting as normal, with no error lights or smoke.

I have seen the boards about pipes etc, but I can't work out which ones to be looking at, as there are a few.

Any ideas would be great, thanks - fingers crossed its not too much ££££ to fix.

Mine does this I don't have a clue what it is if I apply the throttle slowly it doesn't do it

I'd check any pipes in the vicinity of the turbo - anything that could leak on the engine side of the turbo could cause this kind of symptom (although I don't understand the bit about gears 1 & 2 being good). If that doesn't show anything (and, you have to be careful because some leaks will only be there when hot, and a hot exhaust is something to be very careful of) probably check the EGR, just because that's quite a common problem.

it could be the turbo vanes need a clearout. The turbo sounds to be struggling under the additional load...?

Does your car have the 2 pipes that go into the front at the top? My mechanic mate said he's never seen a setup like it before and apparently there's a flap that closes at certain boost pressures not all the 2.0 tdci have it
