What Hid Kits Do You Have??

Featured Replies

Well im going to buy a hid kit but what do you folks have? What comes recomended? I am wanting a bright white/blue light, also what would be best for the main beam, side lights and fogs? Also is de-tangoing the indicaters as easy as putting silver bulbs in? I am wanting to do this as cheap as poss so any input would be great!

I had a couple of spare HID kits lying in the shed, never looked at them though as I put ST3 black xenons into the Focus. Tested the kits recently though off a 12V battery and all seems to be working fine, so I ordered a pair of 6000k H7R ('R' meaning they're better designed for reflector headlight units rather than projectors, as they have a section of the bulb masked off to help beam pattern) bulbs to try run them on the Mondeo. Not sure the quality/cost/source/age of the ballasts though so will just have to wait and see.

Not sure how they'll work out, and I'm sure you know all the (il)legalities of retro-fitting HIDs (washers, levellers etc...if this is all new to you, either get reading or brace yourself for a few lectures!), but I'll be doing them as a trial. Got sidetracked from this on Monday and the weather is putting me off too, but might get round to it this evening some stage as the snow is starting to clear.

6000k colour temperature would be your best bet for the white/blue light you're after, and I'm hoping they should be a good match for my 6000k CREE LED sidelights and fogs

As for de-tangoing, you need to split the headlight to remove the orange indicator lens and then fit silver bulbs. You can replace the lens with a clear version from a Focus, but they need a good bit of trimming to fit. I forgot I had a pair of Focus lenses that I ordered to do this on my last Mondeo when I had my lights apart last week so might go back to it at some stage, if I could be arsd to split the lights again. But think it looks fine as is...

Thanks mate, I was unsure about doing it on the silver car, but absolutely love it. Cost me a fiver in the pound shop by the way to do the black eyes if you're trying to save the pennies for the leathers. Pack of wire wool to key the surrounds, two tins of primer and two tins of matte black. Took the lights out one night, split them and got them primered. Left it over night, put colour coat on first thing next morning and left that to dry and they were ready to be put back together and go back on the car that evening.

Add on a couple of quid for the silver indicator bulbs, cheap mod and I love it!

If you want any more detail on the process or about splitting the lights even to detango, just shout. Patience and the missus' hairdryer (if you've no heatgun) being the two absolute necessities!

I've had to order a few new CREEs as I thought the H11 from the Focus would swap into the Mondeo, but found out today (after removing the fogs of course!) that I actually need H7 for the Mondeo fogs. The little motivation I had to brave the weather and attempt the HIDs went out the window after that setback! Think I'll just wait now anyway til my CREEs arrive and do the lot at the same time.

Bargains can be had on the standard leathers these days, especially with yours being a pre-facelift Mk3. I'll keep an eye out in forum classifieds and ebay and give you a shout if I see anythin.

I've got a 50w 4300k set I use, they are IMO just right for colour. I waged war against blue hids it just looks a bit off with blue belting out the front.

I've done the black eyes conversion as well, the best mod you can do for £15 by far, transforms the front f the car.

I'll get some pictures of the look today

I'm in the same boat. I keep an eye out for leather but something more important comes along that needs money first. Have a quick look on google. I'm pretty sure the image I saw of black eyes was on a silver car. It looks good on all colour cars. If you really want it to tie in paint the grill as wellpost-49825-139246973234_thumb.jpg

That's what mine looks like
