Spring Worry.

Featured Replies

Very exciting stuff, driving home from work about 20 minutes ago, and clunk, I gave it her a little wiggle and all seems well, when I arrived home I looked in the arch to see what was going on and I found a little souvenir perched between the plastic guard and chassis, I have looked bounced and wobbled and it doesn't seem to belong to me I think anyway the noise made must have been this piece from another poor souls front end, pictures below show the piece and where I found it aswell as my front spring.post-40601-139230747415_thumb.jpgpost-40601-139230745602_thumb.jpgpost-40601-139230743517_thumb.jpg

The only other explanation Is that it was part of the broken spring changed this time last year and has never moved or been seen and the noise was just a coincidence

hmm very odd, whats the likly hood, that when u drove past another car their spring gave way bounced on the road got caught by your wheel and flung up into your wheel arch where it sat all the way home? i think its previous evidence tbh the chances of that happening is second to none!!

No I mean from the floor, I have been out again on what might be the roughest lane in the world and it's still fine so I reckon its either a flukey pick up or old piece from the old springs, looking at the rust it appears old rust aswell because I have felt the bottom mount and it's not broken the top appears fine too and it's sitting level so it looks like I got over excited over nothing. Haha

I shall leave it the piece imaged has a very shiney coating and my 12 Month old springs shouldn't have a broken casing or rust bubbles I will be saying for now that it was nothing to do with me, no rattles or leaning through potholes or the aforementioned world's worst lane, fiestas tend to fall over on them selves when the spring goes.

Yh i know what you mean haha, but then again most cars face plant after a broken spring, my dads old Laguna ripped a spring in half going over a pot hole, ive never seen a car go so low after that

exactly the same thing happened to me about a month ago coming off the roundabout next to my flat I heard a metal to metal noise then a tinkling noise so went to have a look and found a bit of broken spring the same as you but couldn't see any broken springs... Just keeping fingers crossed for now :)

Im going to say that i think mine was there from the old broken spring last year, the lane i went down earlier would have been enough to shake it clear of the strut caps, i think the noise may have been some other crap on the road, and i got a good grip of the spring and pulled it and it doesn't give an inch so i will be very upset and in a blaze of tyre and wheel knackering glory if its gone but i cant see the springs lasting only 12 months its not been cold nor do i smash my way through every bump and hole in the road.

Nice one mate, same here :)

Yeh after using the intelligent part of my brain I put my hand in and felt the top and bottom of the spring which still has its own top and bottom so that belongs to either me from a long while ago or someone else, the world's roughest lane is open to the public so if anyone wants to test their springs or in fact break them for sure come and see me in Cornwall, I'm almost certain that 2 of the holes were enough to make the front of the fiesta bounce completely off the ground at 10 mpg, and even better news is that after a lovely day yesturday it's back to the old rain and wind, great.
