Focus 1.8 Tdci Power Loss...

Featured Replies

Hi

Experiencing a power loss on my focus feels like the turbo is not kicking in. Earlier i was driving along in 3rd gear around 2000 RPM and there was alot of vibration coming from the engine. Compared to the way the car is usually running it feels rough and zero pickup from any of the rev range. it used to blow a lot of black smoke under acceleration but that has also stopped, could the two be linked in..

what could be the problem? a blown turbo or hopefully something else.

thanks

Just to add: have taken it out and warmed it up and the way the engine is acting is like it is struggling like i have put it into a high gear at the wrong time it does get high into the rev range but no power.

Try your air filter and change the fuel filter

Thanks for the reply

will have a look. Can the filter cause the car to be underpowered and the engine to vibrate?

Yes if it's starving the motor of air engine would vibrate cause it's struggling black smoke is usually a sign of a blocked filter .

Thanks mate

I'll get onto changing the air filter and fuel filter and fingers crossed it should sort it out.

Also don't know if this is linked in but the fan is always kicking in at the start when the car is cold which i have noticed can restrain a bit of power

black smoke indecates over fueling or not enough oxygen, so start with air filter and fuel filter like stated.... may as well do the oil and its filter also, then you know its good for a while...

maybe also block off the egr valve, this will improve turbo spool up and all round better feel through the rev range. (no power increase) and be cleaner thro the output
