rich fox
hi, ive just bought a focus st3 ( 2009 ) , really happy with the car but have noticed a problem, even after cleaning the dipstick and fully replacing it, after a short journey the dipstick pops out from its housing, any ideas anyone ??? thanks
jeebowhite
could be a slight blockage, the oil pressure appears to be building up possibly causing it to pop out. Either there is a slight obstruction in the pipe, or the car needs a flush and fluid replacement.
JW1982
This problem is most likely caused by a defective diaphragm of the Crankcase pressure vent oil separator. This diaphragm is integrated into the oil filter housing. If the diaphragm is defective there will be a pressure build up in the crankcase. This pressure is strong enough to push the dipstick out. Another way to determine a defective diaphragm is to remove the filler cap with the engine running and putting your hand over the filler hole. If the diaphragm is defective you will feel the engine suck / blow strongly. A defective diaphragm will also make noise. If the diaphragm is defective you have to change the complete oil filter housing. It is a known problem for the 2.5 Turbo engines. Your car should already have an improved oil filter housing but these housings can also have the same problems. If the diaphragm is defective it is recommended to not drive the car too much. Because of the pressure build up the camshaft seals can blow out which causes an oil leak on the timing belt.

minimadgriff
What Wilco said will be the issue. You can purchase the part cheaper from Volvo than Ford. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oil-Filter-Housing-Volvo-Ford-Focus-ST-pt-no-30788494-/190531849017?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c5c954b39
