Focus St3 Dip Stick Problem???

Featured Replies

hi, ive just got a st3 ( 59 ) plate, every time i put the dipstick back fully, after a short drive the dipstick pops out of its normal place, any ideas anyone ???

thanks

Hi, sounds like you have the wrong stick, check your Focus manual 1st. Is yours the exact same as the illustration?

If not, pop over to your local garage, to check it out?

This problem is most likely caused by a defective diaphragm of the Crankcase pressure vent oil separator. This diaphragm is integrated into the oil filter housing.

If the diaphragm is defective there will be a pressure build up in the crankcase. This pressure is strong enough to push the dipstick out. Another way to determine a defective diaphragm is to remove the filler cap with the engine running and putting your hand over the filler hole. If the diaphragm is defective you will feel the engine suck / blow strongly. A defective diaphragm will also make noise.

If the diaphragm is defective you have to change the complete oil filter housing. It is a known problem for the 2.5 Turbo engines. Your car should already have an improved oil filter housing but these housings can also have the same problems. If the diaphragm is defective it is recommended to not drive the car too much. Because of the pressure build up the camshaft seals can blow out which causes an oil leak on the timing belt.
