Ecoboost Vs Zetec

Featured Replies

Hi guys, at the moment i currently own a 1.25 zetec MK7 and considering getting the 1.0 ecoboost . I know its a smaller engine but apparently its a more refined engine making it feel more like a diesel thats a pocket rocket.

Any suggestions

Had mine for 4 months now, feels like a much bigger engine tbh, much much better than an NA 1.25 lump, quicker than the 1.6 derv too. beware of the economy figs though 50MPG seems the average, I got mine for £10,495 cash for a Zetec in white with sync pretty good deal to be honest.

to be honest the 1.0 is good because of the turbo, although to be honest I have heard that others would have preferred the 1.6 variant, as opposed to the 1.0 turbo.

This would depend on thier commute I'd say, the Eco is great around town and up to say 50MPH if cruising at 70MPH it does start to struggle a little bit as 5th gear and all gears in general are actually very long for a 1.0 does 62 in 2nd gear which is generally unheard of and it does it easily, but 5th is a bit too long for the car, might be different with a map and more torque etc but pulling out into the fast lane at 70 and foot to the floor can be a bad idea when you a RR up your !Removed!, a 1.6 would be a better choice, or just get the ST no different on fuel really and finance payments are practically the same due to much higher residuals.

Cheers on your opinions guys

I did 85mph (quick burst to get past something on motorway) and felt it had more to give, so I'm loving my little 1.0t 125ps ecoboost engine, and sounds great too. Used to have a 1.6 ti-vct and am sure I've got more oomph with this little engine :)

Only had mine for a week and a half so just settling in with the tiny motor.

It certainly punches above it's weight for such a small engine and only 3 cylinders.

I would prefer shorter gears as I'm using third at 30mph @ 1800rpm if you knock into fourth your down to 1250rpm which is too low.

I would prefer lower gearing and less top end, I'm never going to max out at 122mph.

Yeah seems odd being at 50-60mph and still in 2nd gear without being on the redline & when I get mine that will take some getting used too
