What Parts Need Replacing On A Cambelt Change?

Featured Replies

I have a 2007 (07/06/2007) Ford Focus Ghia mk2 (KKDA engine) 1.8 diesel, 80,000 miles.

I'm very happy with my car and expect to keep it for another 3-5 years, so i'm willing to spend the money now getting the cambelt done before I start paying my new mortgage in 6 months time.

What could ideally could be changed when doing the cambelt, I was thinking cambelt, tensioner, pulley, water pump (is the water pump on this model driven by the cambelt?) and coolant?

Also is there any aux belts that could be changed whilst this work is being done?

Cheers in advance

Yes like you mentioned, get the full timing belt kit, including the tensioner, and also get the water pump replaced, i dont think it is driven by the belt but it is in the same area and changing the belt you might as well do the pump because if it fails youll have to open the timing cover back up to replace.

the aux belt is outside the engine and drives the power steering, alternator, AC etc and its usually due arond the same time the timing belt is. youll notice squeaking noises when its near the end of its life, id get that changed too. also check all the tensioners and pulleys run by the belts for any bearing noise or loose-ness and replace those too if needed
