Possible Warped Brake Disks After 10.000 Miles

Featured Replies

Question....

I'm getting vibration through the brake peddle with heavy braking as well as light braking. This is a classic symptom of warped disks bit, not after 10.000 miles?

I'm also getting a light vibration through the steering wheel when turning at 15 / 20 mph and don't think this is connected. Any ideas chaps? I'm putting this problem down to the potholes I've encountered recently and will be getting the wheel / tracking checked as well is a visual check by myself of the brake disks to see if there is a separate problem there

Should I be checking anything else while I'm at it?

P.s

Tyre pressure / Wheel nuts checked OK

wouldnt be the first time ive seen warped discs at an early stage...so possible

think a general check of all the suspension joints/bushes and ensuring the calipers are all working as intended, not sticking would be all that id add

Swapped front wheels to the rear plus tracking checked and adjusted.

While rotating the front wheels there was an intermittent rubbing of the disk / pads so the disks are definitely warped. Thinking of trying out some standard EBC vented disks.

How do you check suspension bushes?

by checking for play..such as wiggle the wheel side to side, as if you were checking for play in steering...suspension bush problems will show up more if you wiggle when steering is on full lock, so check for play on both sides and both locks...also check for obvious signs of rips/splits/cracks in the bushes.

a slightly better way of doing it is with wheels on the ground and have someone operate the steering, especially on full locks whilst you observe for play in the bushes...though obviously, this is far easier on a drive on ramp or over a pit

could also use a lever to check for excess movement

Are the bushes fairly obvious and how many are there to check? My car seems to follow grooves and cambers more than it used to and I feel road imperfections more through the steering wheel than when I got it, though I've had the tracking done

This is quite common for low profile tyres. It's called tramlining. You notice it more as the tyres wear. They will find the groove made in the road try and follow it. I found putting new tyres on resolves it or rotating the backs to the front.

could well be tyres, but worth checking the bushes...on a fiesta, only bushes you really need to look at are on the front lower arms...

shocks and ball joints can play a part in this too, so worth checking for any play in the joints or leaks on the shocks...might be worth a set of shocks if they are original and done over 60k, even if they dont show signs of leaking...also check coil springs for any breakage
