Mk7 Boot Open Warning Coming On

Featured Replies

Ive also had the boot open warning intermittantly for 12 months or so but has never been more than a mild irritation and the boot has always remained locked, but now after i lock the car the dashboard backlights are coming on and staying on until i return to the car, this can range from minutes to hours after locking causing the battery to drain overnight \ while at work.

I have bought a jump starter to see me through until i can get it to an auto electrician whuch are booked up for weeks!! and I am also toying with the idea of disconnecting the battery overnight as the continual charge and discharge will ultimately ruin the battery.

In the meantime i am goin to try and reset the wiring in the boot lock then potentially buy another micro switch or even the whole boot latch assembly depending on cost to see if it will resolve the issue as im sure this is the main reason if not maybe a factor contributing to this dashboard fault.

Will let you know if i get any success!!

Yeah i did the same, swapped the latch out on friday been no more beeping and no more lights on the dash since.

Part cost £21 inc next day delivery from Amazon.

Had to remove 3 screws and the plastics from the cover in the boot, the 2 bolts and a push fit electrical connection to swap the latch. Took bout 10-15 mins n i recon i could have talked my Mrs through doing it it was that straight forward.

Would have easily been a £70+ job if u took it to a garage!!

Hi you would get more replies if you started a new thread. I am not 100% on your car but if it was me I would start under the bonnet round the fusebox area and checck ground points, batt connections then relays in the fusebox.

Regarding the boot latch I had my boot open light coming on every now and again and it was down to the wipermotor seal no longer sealing and thus letting water in to the boot lid.

I had this issue, when locked the alarm would go off randomly, the clock/centre display and the milage in the middle of the dashboard between the rev counter and speedo would be illuminated and the interior light and red ambient lighting would stay on draining the battery.(had to bump start it on Thursday to get home from work!)

Bought a new battery (£80, didn't fix it...) and then found this thread. Ordered a second hand part off Amazon (£13) and fitted it. As other people have said, three screws ( one in either upright plastic trim, one in the recess main back panel) and a bit of finger tip brute force exposed the lock. Two bolts and an electrical connector. Swapped the part over and Bingo, issue solved.

This thread saved me a load of time

and hunting about, had the same issue with the alarm randomly going off etc. bought the part linked from Amazon above and 15mins later it was all sorted.

Great to see it’s still helping in 2022 😂

Hi there.

My daughters 2009 fiesta has started playing up. So the boot open warning sign has come on plus the little red car sign on dash is on with interior light staying on. The boot is firmly closed no alarm going off. I have removed boot switch and cleaned but no change can anybody help me please.

Replace the boot latch. The little microswitch inside has failed.

Same problem for me in a 2009 1.6TDCi Fiesta but a little more to it to help others who have similar issues:

Symptoms were present for years

1.       Intermittent and irregular boot open warning message on the dash (with the chime) whilst driving and at start up, most often on hot dry days.  Problem hardly occurred through the winter.

2.      When locked the car alarm would trigger for no apparent reason, it did this much more often in warmer/drier weather.  “Alarm Activated” warning on the dash at start up, quite common during the spring/ summer months

3.      The issue with the alarm had been there for years, the boot open warning light for much longer but it all became much worse since the car was parked up for 4 months through the winter of 2019/20

4.      Never noticed it but the boot light had stopped working years ago, in fact I was not aware there was one as I do not remember seeing it working for the entire 14 years of owning the car.

Investigation of the boot latch revealed problems with the plug and connecting pins for the boot latch. It’s white connector contained 4 pins which are boot light switch line (blue/white wire),  boot open switch line (yellow/orange wire),  earth (black yellow wire) and door latch motor supply (blue red wire).  One of the pins (the boot light switch output with the blue and white wire) had completely corroded away inside the plug; the other three pins (especially yellow red wire door open line pin) were also quite badly affected by corrosion but the pins were still there.

Replaced the boot latch and replaced the connector plug by splicing in a good one from a suitable second-hand loom.

The alarm no longer triggers when not needed, boot open chime and warning message no longer occurs and I have a working boot light.  Not sure if it was the plug that caused the door open warning and alarm but it certainly was the problem with the boot light.  Interior microswitch issue with the latch is likely for the alarm activations but it could have simply been the condition of the pin and pug connections.

New door latch (a Chinese copy) replacement was £15.99 off ebay similar to the one Unofix recommended above, they seem to be common to a number of cars.  A used tail gate loom with what looked like the correct connector was £12 off ebay. I was unable to find a source for a new connector plug hence splicing an old one in. For that sort of price its not worth messing around just replace the latch and you need to carefully check that white plug and make sure the pins are clean
