Number Plates

Featured Replies

its not bullshit at all, these plates are made by making up a plane plate and then sticking the domed letters on the face of the plate so whats to stop people peeling off and rearanging the letters to fool the law, thats why they are not allowed.

I know how there made... It's not possible just the peel them of and rearrange them haha. They are secured on pretty well and would require a lot of scraping or a heat gun to remove them. Anyways it wasn't that I was saying was bs, it's the fact that you say they are not allowed, they are fully legal.

Just picked up my 14 plate Fiesta last Friday and the Ford dealer fitted aluminium alloy front and rear plates with (as instructed) no blue EU flag and no dealer advertisement along the bottom, so it can be done and (one assumes) must be legal.

Yeah surely Ford wouldn't sell you a brand new car with illegal plates on it and surely they must know what they are doing (well you would like to think so,lol)

its funny then that Signam the largest uk company of numberplate componants only supply six styles of legal digit and non of them are raised.

That doesn't really make sense? So because One of the largest company doesn't sell them in a different style it makes them illegal?. Obviously the raised ones are only legal if there the legal fonts.

Wow... Started something here...

Number Plates are a passionate subject for many :P Its the ones that look likethis that wind me up!

I try not to get too deep into legalities of plates at work, that's primarily the Traffic Officers realm and standard patrol Officers.

If I see a plate that is blatantly wrong then I deal with it.

I'm not a black rat and have no interest in being one so traffic regulations are not my primary concern.

Don't you also have to provide your V5 to get a plate made up? So the ones on eBay must be being made illegally at least.

I'm no legal expert but private ones made to "look" like they say something they don't with the spacing I don't agree with. No problem if they really do say it or just make your car personal, my kids have them and I would like one but wouldn't mess with them, asking for the police to stop you and give your car a good going over.

Everyone has their own opinion though about these.

The eBay sellers will sell you the road legal plate for 'show use' if no V5 is sent. If you scan it in and email, then it becomes legit. Mine were £11 :)
