Hello I am trying to register my mk 1 escort as tax exempt but DVLA are requesting proof of manufacture date of Dec 1973, they have said I need a letter from a ford club stating the manufacturer date please could anyone advise who I can go through

    I would of thought just sending the logbook to dvla to change tax class as it should say date of first registration.

    It is the manufacture date, not the registration date. This date is not on the log book. Only the registration date is!!!!

    Take your vin number to Ford.

    They should be able to check.

    I'm calm lol, but I've said this same thing all day today.The manufacture date is Dec 73. Reg date Feb 74. Because the manufacture Date is not displayed on any log book I have to provide proof via a ford owners club. Exactly what dvla instructed

    But an owners club can not prove anything!!!!

    The date of manufacture is within the vin number, besides that dvla will actually have all of the history of the car anyway from when it was first registered and therefore they will know when it was built

    I would say you got someone from dvla who doesn't know what they're on about, try phoning again and with any luck they actually have a clue it should be simple.
