Running St In

Featured Replies

Whats everyones opinions on running a ST in? Ive done 300 miles now, letting car warm up and then using the rev range up to about 6k, not ragging it but varying speed and revs. Also not labouring the engine and keeping it above 2k. Getting around 33 mpg so quite impressed . Anyone got any advice?

Give it a thousand miles if you can resist it. Vary the revs and don't labour it. Then get the oil and filter changed to clear out the new engine swarf. Let the engine idle for a minute to let cool oil through the turbo so stop carbonising before switching off.

I agree Sandy that's what I'll try and do when I get mine, but I'll probably limit my revs for the first 1k, and probably avoid full throttle if that helps. As for letting the engine idle for a minute, is that something you would do just until you think it's run in, or always? I think I read somewhere that letting the engine idle for a long time is bad for a new car.

Cheers willy, think I may slow it down for a bit then till 1k

You can still enjoy it Clarky, just don't under / over rev the engine for a while.

If it helps my dealer warned me not to take it above 3k rpm for the 1st thousand miles

Always. Letting it idle for a minute is no different than being at traffic lights and doesn't harm the engine at all. It prolongs turbo life because cooler oil is allowed to run through it which helps prevent carbonising of very hot oil in the bearings.

It has warranty, just drive it flat out all the time. Stretch it's legs, bed it in properly.

Lol matt. I've had some fun already in it, probably count the number of times I've changed at 6k on 1 hand. Up to 400 now been out all day in it. I have found there is hardly any travel in the brakes though, my zs had a fair bit of travel but these brakes are literally on or off lol you found that?

Yeah brakes are really sharp it's great, found in my 1.0 my foot was near the radiator before it stopped. Get mine back from repair on Thursday cannot wait. It has been sorely missed.

I saw the pic you posted about that. Has it been sorted with the insurance then? Have you had to pay anything?

Not paid a thing, not even my excess or a single penny for the hire car, even excess liability free. Just want it back, this pony 1.4 turbo astra is soul destroying

Is the Astra really that bad? Whats it like on fuel?

Does about 32 no matter how you drive it, painfully slow too.

Stay under 3k for the 1st 1000 miles. I have managed so far, got 300 miles left. Still shot past loads of others cars though :)
