Timing Belt Has Scrapes On It Will It Snap?? Can It B Normal... Have A Read;)

Featured Replies

Jus today my car has a constant squeak every second or so on tick over. When I pulled back the timing belt cover to inspect the t-belt the belt looks like a cat has been scraping at it for quite a while. Is my belt about to snap because of a worn tensioner or can belts look like this??

Without a picture, any possible damage can't be judged, but considering the cost of replacing a cambelt against replacing an engine, or a head at least, I'd err on the side of caution and have the belt replaced. Also it may even be time, or past time the belt was replaced anyway, you don;t say how long the car has gone after the last change, if one has been done.

For the sake of £200 or less just get it changed, it'll cost a lot more if you don't and it's 5 years peace of mind after.

The belts will perish, given the car is 14 years old is it the original?
