Hi From New Fiesta Owner!

Featured Replies

Just picked a 63 plate pre reg Race Red 1.25 82 Zetec 5 door.

Very pleased with it so far, wife loves it too!

Sadly had to replace a Fiat with a 1.3 Diesel engine which was starting to become unreliable with Diesel Particulate Filter problems. Think this is an expensive time bomb that eventually will affect ALL Diesel engined vehicles fitted with a DPF. Great little engine but destroyed by EU emission regulations!

Hopefully the Fiesta will be more reliable and cheaper to run in the long run.

Hello and welcome - only joined the forum myself a couple of days ago.

Hi Henry welcome to the club! Sounds like you have picked up a nice little Fiesta!

Welcome! I'm a newbie too. ;)

Hello back to you all!

Wondered if anybody else had come across diesel particulate problems and short journey problems?

Welcome to the family Henry!

Sadly the DPF is a nightmare! even on the newer vehicles with bigger engines, they are nothing but a problem. Unless you regularly do long haul runs on the motorway, the DPF ends up clogging up and causing chaos and choking and just kills more of the car by the day.

As an FYI in case you werent aware, the general advice with any DPF motor is that you take it on the motorway for a good run, some like myself would say keep the revs high on the motorway for a good 10 - 15 minutes, others say just drive it on the motorway with no extra fuss. Either way, thats what is necessary to keep them working! and now that their removal is "illegal" it just makes more expense and pain for any owner who happens to stumble across it with little information before hand!

Now that we are retired seems silly to be using up fuel charging up and down the motorway just so that car can survive!! :iim:

Sadly in the long run changing to a petrol car is the only (expensive) solution for short distance driving.

BUT really getting to really love the new Fiesta the more we drive it -every cloud has its silver lining.... :)

Indeed, it is a bit daft, but then diesel was built for miles, I suppose they just assume that everyone knows this fact and everyone knows to just buy petrol if you understand the intricacies of the DPF (cos, well, everyone clearly should know this!)

Thankfully the eco petrols give you the best of both, best mileage and no frill hassle.
