Strange Goings On With Speedo Reading

Featured Replies

I know quite often cars ect are clocked and if dont hpi them ect, it's not till you've got it you might find out....but when you've looked at one and everything seems hunky dory, and do a mot history check and it's got less miles on it than on the clock, what then!

I went to see one yesterday (another focus) it had 102000 on the clock, but after doing a mot history, it came up as having 70000 at April last year. Clocking backwards yes, but adding on....weird!

The mileage has been consistent since 05 ie about 8-10000 a year, then 70000 at this time last year but 102 now. So, unless someone's did dam near 30000 in the year, whoever had it put different clocks in

Does it sound like someone's changed them or did 30000 odd in the last year

Can't see why someone would change clocks to a higher mileage and not state they have, they'd be losing money on the motor?

I know, it's weird but that's what's maybe happened, unles like I say, someone's did 30000 miles in the last year....which I thinks a hell of lot in a 2.0 petrol focus

Anyone else any views on this

Just a thought, was it a trade of private sale? If private surely the guy could answer the question himself?

Perhaps they went abroad in the car a few times last year? Still a hell of a lot of miles

It's a dealer, not like Arnold Clark, just a noddy setup.....I'll see them tues though and ask, they probably won't know though, I can see a bigger diesel doing that kind of mileage, but a petrol focus, my god, it's not comfy either, unless they had a seat pad. Christ I'm sore in mine after about 15-20 mins

Haha that chuckled me "not like Arnold Clark just a nobody set up" good luck mate!

They may have replaced the cluster for a salvaged part as the odometer can't be rolled back.

Any further hints on old MOT certificates or the V5C?

I know, digi speedo's can all (I think be put back or forward), there's a place near me does it

I've got a full mot history print, from 05 or 6 everything tally's up, it's just that from this time last till now there's dam near 30000....it's the most I've saw on a car in a single year...and I've a had a few believe me

Like I say, that kind of mileage in a focus wouldn't be good, well I really doubt it, unless they had a seat pad and a bludy good one!

I'll hopefully get back to the dealer on tues and see what's what, unless they've got the service book and all stamped up, they probably won't know either, see what happens

The only thing I noticed driving it was the tc light on, and discs and/or pads rubbing at the back, but they said fix it

It'd just be a runabout but with some grunt for 500....I like the 1.6 I've got but would like a bit extra

I'm still thinking about a friends Astra 1.7cdti...an 04, he wants 1500

astras are slow, cramped and have an even worse driving position.poor mpg and a weak engine

Not this one it's not, I'm sure it's been mapped, I said that to him but he didn't know, if it has it'll be bordering on 130-50hp don't know about torque. Felt fine to me inside, not cramped or anything, just good, didn't drive like the Focus but it's a different kind of car

are we talking mk4?thought you ment the mk5. mk4 has like 75bhp stock unless im mistaken, would have to be one hell of a remap :)

This shape

It pulls as hard as my last 03 Mondeo 2.0tdci and e46 320d and they're both about 150 as standard I think

I'm VERY tempted with it but at the price of the other Focus 2.0 for 500 quid with a years mot, I'm stuck, the only thing putting me off going back to diesels are injectors, egr's and turbos....nothing's else, as they suit my driving style

But then so I think would a 2.0 petrol Focus as it's a bit smaller with a bit more grunt than the 1.6....see what happens
