So how do you prevent your car from being stolen ?

i was thinking about this and thinking about maybe pulling the fuses for starter / fuel pump ?

The problem is you will never stop them.

The scum bags will always find a way of taking what they want. Pulling the fuel pump fuse will certainly stop the engine running but how practical is it? Fine I guess if your going on holiday for 2 weeks. Unless of course they lift the car.

Personally I don't bother with anything other than the standard alarm/immobiliser. My car is correctly insured so that's good enough for me.

The cheapest but maybe not easiest would be to take all the wheels off or maybe remove the distributor cap (if it has one) or battery.

If your really determined. you could always sleep in the car

I stick mine in the garage with heavy duty lock on the door and movement light outside. I did get cctv for the front of the house which included garage but haven't got round to fitting it yet.

That is something I would like and will own one day is a big house with 2 car garage attacted !

But for the moment no sadly.

They are mad with their trucks just lifting cars but might aswell pull a few fuses to make life hard for them

Use a wheel clamp or a battery terminal trip switch.

please dont take this the wrong way, but you sound like one of the people that locks there car when they fuel up, why why why...

tbh im like stef, if they want something, no matter what it is they will take it regardless of circumstances and consequence.....

I lock my car when I fill up because a) I leave my little girl in the car when she's with me and b) I've heard horror stories of people jumping into the back of people's cars while they fill up and attacking them down the road (when you're out until 3am quite often this is something to be wary of!) And now it's just a habit lol.

id rather just lock it and let them take it and claim off insurance than fret about keeping it safe all the time tbh.....plus if they break in and cant take it theres a lot more work repairing everything after

When you're young and got minimal no claims then anything to prevent having to claim is helpful

To be honest, you can always look to deter, but that will only deter the idiots amongst the thieves, those who are unprepared. Removing starter / fuel pump fises and relays is a good starting point to stop the car firing up in the event of theft with keys. Alternatively, wheel clamps, steering wheel lock are also handy to prevent the novice.

However, if they have a lift then no amount of effort is going to save the car from being nicked and this is where the insurance policy would come to play.

At the end of the day, you could load your car with goodies to prevent a theft, but beyond that, there is only so much you can do.

My favoured would be to wire up a car battery to the bodywork and electrify the car, that way, it might stop them coming back quickly! :p

I would have thought a car that blends in will have less chance in being stolen. I remember reading about someone who put 3 or 4 lockers on his alloys to stop them being nicked, instead they keyed the car. There's no winning I'm afraid, garage is the best option really. What cannot be seen, cannot be stolen.

Ed is probably right with that statement, however sometimes it can be a case for those clued up that what cannot be seen is probably best stolen around my area!

Good shout. Not free or cheap but probably best chance of getting it back if it is stolen. Then again not sure I'd want it back as the scum would probably rag the nuts off it

Sadly if they want it they will take it no matter what with a HIAB, the only way to deter them is making life harder than taken the one in the next street, so its CCTV and lights, standard looking car and common. to deter the scroats that hang around the manufacturers are doing a better job now than in the past so older cars Cat1 alarm/imob and for diesels a fuel solenoid added into fuel line.

to all dont hand it on a plate to them, they will take it off you in a nano second giving half a chance so never leave it running and keys in when you get out, even to move the bin out your way on the drive, they just might of put it there and hiding in the bushes, (was a spate of this a good few year back) if they get your car and your keys insurance wont pay up if you left them in.

if I am not mistaken that product they saw was from a certain VAG branded website.

Its rediculous how clever criminals are, if they put there knowledge to proper use, they could probably earn the same if not more on a decent and honest job!
