Brake Calipers

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone out there could help me.

I'm looking to paint my brake calipers.

Literally no idea how to go about it

1. Is it only the wheel I need to take off?

2. What kind of paint.

3. What to paint what bits not to paint.

Thanks

This is on my list of things to do.

Halfords do brake caliper paint for £11.

Just a case of jacking up the car, removing the wheels, giving everything a good scrub and clean, then painting the caliper a few coats.

Annoyingly I don't have the tools or space to allow me to take both wheels off at the same time so will need to allow plenty of drying time.

Have a search on the forum, a few have done theirs with good results and you will see exactly the part you need to paint

Thanks for that, is it dangerous to jack the car up on both side at the same time?

I guess you really should use axle stands for that

I have painted mine. I used a trolley jack to jack the car up then.support it on axel stands. Do not use 2 jacks I each side as the car will most probably fall off the first jack. I put a couple of bricks behind the wheels that wasn't coming off just for extra security.

As said above get the stuff from halfords.

If spraying mask up very well. A good result mostly depends in the prep taken. Do not paint rubber grommets or bolts. Do not paint the back.of the pad either. Itwont harm your braking but just does not look as good.

Just take your time and allow to be fully dry.

I would allow a whole day just to be on the safe side. I done my drums in half a day and when I drove the car I had paint splatters on my wheels. Lol.

Here is a pic of mine with the wheels on. I didn't get any with wheels off.
