Question About New Speedometer Unit Suitability

Featured Replies

Hi. New to the forum

Couldnt find this question answered anywhere through search.

I have a mk1 Focus (2001 1.4) and the speedo has started acting up, which i have noticed seems to be a common occurence in the Focus.

My question is does a replacement speedo unit need to be from the exact same car ( 2001 1.4 model) or can it be from other years or engine size.

its the vss vehicle speed sensor located on the gearbox that needs replaced not the speedo unit the speed sensor should be replaced with a new one

I will second that :)

I had thought that at first tbh, but the garage i used said it is the speedometer unit, as he said i was best going to source this 2nd hand on my own and he would fit it. I shall purchase a speed sensor also due its expensiveness and have that fitted also.

many garages no offence dont have a clue a new speedo will fit from only a 1.4 and the mileage has to be higher than what you have on the car at the moment then youll either need to keep it like that or have the mileage corrected i would have the speed sensor done only a garage cant tell its the speedo unit even ford cant do that it has to be sent to a specialist for repair and diagnosis so i find it unlikely its the cluster main reason is you would get random brake lights coming on such as the handbrake the speed would stop there would be condensation in the cluster and also the mph wouldnt work correctly

honest opinion dont bother with the new unit just have the vss replaced and youre issue should be sorted

here here :)
