Service Indicator Has Come On But Car Was Serviced In March

Featured Replies

Hi all

A quick question. I bought my focus in March as part of the sale it was agreed the car would be serviced before I picked it up. The service book was stamped when I picked it up and so I assumed it had been done. I've been checking oil regularly and whilst it is black it don't look that dirty.

So now I'm wondering was it serviced and just not reset or was it not serviced???

If I ring the dealership I assume they are just going to turn round and say it was.

Do you think it's worth ringing or shall I just reset it.

Thanks

Adrian.

The dealers will tell you it's been serviced without doubt.

Personally I would just do an oil change. Cost you no more than £30 and you have then got peace of mind.

there is a procedure to reset it if its already been done, I think it went something like this:

Push brake pedal and gas pedal through the floor and hold,

Turn ignition to position II (ignition on) but dont start the car,

hold the pedals and something appears on screen (service reset or similar)

release pedals when reset complete appears on screen.

I believe that was the process, but I only skim read this the other day, although I believe it was in the fiesta section...

If it has been serviced the oil will be clear. My previous Focus oil was still clear after a year so I dont see why it should be black at all.

If it was a main dealer I would take it back. If not I would just do an oil and filter change as Karl suggests.

They probably just neglected to reset the indicator when they serviced it, my local dealer has forgotten on mine in the past. A quick trip to them will have it reset in a couple of minutes :)

Posted on the 1/1/1970???

Edit: nvm...

Anyways I had the same thing on my car 2,000 miles after service at a main dealer, took the car back and had it reset using the method posted above

My oil is black straight away. I believe this is normal for a diesel.
