Ford Focus Key Fob

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just got a 2000 Ford Focus Ghia 1.6 Automatic and the first thing I noticed is that the central locking isn't working. I want to purchase a new key like the new style flip key fob and was wondering how easy they are to program.

Bit more information on what I have. I have one 3 button fob which doesn't work and another normal key. I would like to get the new style key fob which can be easily picked up on ebay but need to know how easy and cost effective this would be

Buy a key off ebay, get the blade cut and programme it yourself.

Put first original key in ignition and turn from 0 to II and back without starting car.

Remove from ignition.

Repeat with second original key.

Put in the new key and turn from 0 to II and leave, the immobiliser light should stop flashing.

Once the light is out attempt to start the car.

And i take it it doesn't matter which order the original keys go in?

cool thanks very much

That procedure will sort out the immobiliser circuit but you will also need to programme the central locking circuit too-

Insert the ignition key and turn from position II (Ignition) to position 0 (All off) and back four times within three seconds.

Remove the ignition key.

The locking control system is now in "learn mode" for the next 20 seconds and the red warning system LED (By the clock) stays on continuously to indicate this.

During the 20 seconds press one of the transmitter buttons.

The fobs signal and code number is learned by the locking module and is indicated by flashing the warning system LED.

Wait until learn mode times out (20 seconds) or switch the ignition back to ON.

This method may also be useful with your existing key that's playing up though I suspect a new battery (CR2032 type) may also be needed.

what if u havent got two keys? i only got one key with my car x

If you only have one key paired to your car's immobiliser then you'll need an auto locksmith to programme another one.
