new to the message board just picked up a 13 plate ztec pn a good deal was looking at getting the system bellow has anyone else installed one are they work it

Looks awesome but the screen is too far away to make it half practical.

are there any other after market ones as this is the only one i found, would be nice to be able to just take it in to ford and have them upgrate it, is the sat nav ford do any good.

You can add it but you'd need a second hand one and the stereo. I have both in my car and I think they are prefect for the purpose. Quite accurate too.

how hard is it to upgrade the maps are them just on a memory card

The maps are in a specific format, So you need one that'll work on the particular unit, Ford have their own so they control the market ( against EU competition rules ) but any aftermarket one that uses Tom Tom can be downloaded via tom toms website for free.

Ford dealers generally won't touch anything they don't supply themselves, buying the Sony unit from them would be financial suicide imo.
