Sync And Siri: A Match Made In Hell?

Featured Replies

So, got my new Fiesta last week and loving everything about it so far. I've even managed to get both iPhones connected up through Sync to stream music, accept calls and - to my surprise - notify of, and read, text messages. "Excellent" thinks I, I can then use Siri to reply to incoming texts since I know Sync doesn't support outbound speech to text on my phone.

And there lies my (possible) problem. I've only tried it once so far but it seems that with the iPhone connected to Sync, Siri is next to useless. I tried activating Siri with the holding of the home button, and the phone beeped as it should, then it started dialling what Sync said was an unknown number although the name displayed was my own.

So, my question: does Sync override the default behaviour of the iPhone and make Siri useless or was it just a glitch? I was listening to DAB at the time not a Bluetooth audio source if that makes any difference.

I can't use s voice on my Samsung either :( would be great if they got them to work together.

I can use mine with the Nokia Lumia, but to be honest, I just reply with a few words coz punctuation seems to be an issue ! I replied to a text and said "exclamation mark" at the end. It didn't put in an exclamation mark, but actually wrote out the words !! Felt a right twit when I saw it later on my phone in the conversations ! Now I kinda just limit it to "driving, reply soon" or I can set my phone to send that for me if a text comes in when it's hooked up to the car, but it's fun speaking to my car !!! LOL

You can use Siri with Sync.

It works in a strange way.

To use Siri, first connect to Sync via Bluetooth, then hold down the home button on your iPhone to activate Siri. Sync will the 'dial' an unknown number but this is actually Siri using your car's microphone. Speak your command and Siri will do as you wish . When your finished, Sync will end the 'call'.

Good luck!

OK, sounds weird but understandable. Probably explains why it had my name but unknown number. I'll give this a try later. Thanks.

I guess since it's not really setup for using a separate voice input it's as good as we can hope for. However, it can't be rocket science to have it display the words "speak now" (to allow it to work with all manufacturers). Once I've tried it I'll post back.

Perfect. Siri is about as accurate as usual for me but hey, you can't have everything! :)
