Engine Cover Paint

Featured Replies

I want to paint my engine cover top section red and bottom gloss black, with the red induction hose going in I think it will look good. My question is how is everyone doing it, just clean the cover and paint straight over, need to sand it down? Not done it before so any tips please for a good finish! :)

i also tend to do it like this, 600 grit wet and dry rub down first them 2 coast primer, 1200 grit wet dry to get any roughness off then 3 cost maybe 4 of top layer as you are doing colours you will need to section each side off, ie you could paint the whole thing red then mask off the bit you want red and paint black, then 2000 grit paper extremly light touching with this and then laquer it leave 15-30mins between each coat of primer paint and laquer and also leave each step ie primer then leave 24hours to harden then paint then 24 hours laquer then 24hours after that buff using a polish and all should be shiny as and looks smart as!!! :)

Thanks! I got a few quotes from local body shops, cheapest is 70 quid!!!!

£70 isn't bad tbh. Got to remember they'll do a much better job that any of us can do, hardest part with diy painting is keeping it dust free whilst it dries. Regardless what everyone says and post photos of on any website I have never seen this done at a meet to a pro standard. All full of bits and looks poor. You could wrap it and save the hassle too.
