Road Safety - On Point Or Too Much??

Featured Replies

Warning: Contains content some people may find distressing

On point for sure! I believe these sorts of safety campaigns need to shock to achieve their goal. If they were tame they would be forgotten about like every other pointless advert on tv!

I'm still wondering how that guy lost the back end of his front wheel drive astra famously known for horrendous understeer

LOL it would just have to be a vauxhall in this advert wouldn't it.

At first I thought it was too much, but after a few moments of thought I think that its distressing but on the money.

Most people have a conscience, and although I dont speed anymore these days - it struck with me how I would feel if that was me driving...

I was horrified when I seen the DOE advert with the lorry running over and completely flattening a silver Mk1 FORD focus. Also the country lane advert with the FORD escort.

They need to stop picking on the fords! I might complain

haha, at least this time they used a vauxhall....

Do you guys remember when Clarkson did a public service ad and it wasn't allowed because of the speed etc, look at this compared to that

I think it's spot on. Its the same as the old 1 with the crippled child after someone knocked the kid over and they showed it in reverse. Haven't seen that add for years but still in my head.

I'm not guna lie and say I don't speed cos I do. These sort of adds give you a reality check though.

So very true! although you need a conscience to have a reality check!

You do indeed.

So this is how a Vauxhall goes round a corner...

If honest though these adverts have no effect whatsoever on me, other than 'lousy effects'. There have been much better adverts leaving more to the imagination...

Seems Dave may not have the conscience :p

I know what you mean though, more often than not different media affects different people. Staged setups are always going to be seen as fake, for some people it would mean that they know it and say "well its not real so...." and more often than not, you would need to see the actual evidence of a real live scenario that has happened for it to trigger, not speaking specifically of you Dave of course!

This is why Medway Council normally at Christmas time releases their own brand of "Dont drink and drive" where more often than not (cant remember if they did it last year) but they take real cars that have been involved in accidents, and leave the damaged article on roundabouts as a stark reminder that if you drink and drive, this is how your car will look - now imagine what your face and criminal record will look like after you have been involved in this! Seeing statements on matrix boards "Dont Drink and Drive" does nothing (I dont feel anything from it, I just read it as another lowsy sign!) then you see the TV ad where the barman is every man and his dog involved, that doesnt really touch me either, again its a nice summary in 30 seconds - but again, it doesnt really show what can happen. Then you see the cars at Christmas "heres a car that crashed head first into a pole, rolled 3 times and there is the blood spatter all over the smashed windscreen" - now that for me is something that (if I did drink and drive) would be the reality check!
