Ti-VCT performance under rated?

Featured Replies

This is a question for anyone who has or has driven a Ti-VCT engine.

The fiesta is quite a light car, and the engine puts out about 120bhp and 152NM of torque, and does 0-60 in 9.9 secs. However this 0-60 is the same as the mk6 zetec-s which had less power and was heavier if I remember correctly? Same with the mini cooper, very similar power and torque figures and heavier than the fiesta, yet a better 0-60 etc.

I know 0-60 times aren't that important, but does anybody feel that the performance figures quoted by ford are slightly under rated?

I would say that 9.9 seconds 0-60 is about right.

The engine really needs to be revved hard to get any decent performance as there is very little torque below 4000rpm.

It is not a performance car in terms of acceleration but the handling more than makes up for this :P

i think its engineered into the map slightly for insurance purpose's and economy, ive noticed it holds back quite abit from a standstill start, anyway thats what remaps are for,the mountune knocks 2 seconds off it and im sure the bluefin remap wont be that far behind

today I did short test on the road... I didn't pushed my fiesta too hard because I am careful about it:P but here you can see my 1.6 ti-vct accelerating...

Caligator - did you have something next to you as you took off? The 'whoosh' as you hit the gas doesn't seem to match up with the engine revs...

DanGull - Looks like I ordered my car 2 days after you - I wonder who will get theirs delivered first . . .

Hey Paul - a similar spec too I see. It will be interesting, what's the estimate for yours? With you being in the Southeast I'd expect you to get yours first, up here seems to be the back of beyond!!

Well he did say early to mid august although when he started talking about plates he did say did I want to pick one or wait and pick one of the 59 plates so maybe he was not telling me the whole story!

I have not bothered chasing the dealer since I placed the order as there seems little point at the moment- have you been calling yours for updates and should I be doing that to make sure I get it in time

Paul - the way I look at it, is that if I were the dealer I'd be less inclined to chase for someone who was badgering me anyway.

I made clear that I had no car at the moment and needed it before the start of the new school year in September, that's enough in my opinion. I may call once at 6 weeks or so to see where we are.

I mentioned the 59 plates, he said it was unlikely to take that long and couldn't guarantee which plate it'd be on.

Dan - well I am think that as I ordered mine on the 1st June I will call him on the 1st July and see if there is any update and depending on what he says either call on the 1st August or start calling him on a fortnightly basis.

As for when it gets registered, as I am going to be without a car and working round it for 8+ weeks minimum I reckon that by then I migth as well wait until the 59 plates come out as although I am planning on keeping it for 5 years + it will make a difference to the eventual selling price and for the sake of a couple of weeks I might as well wait.

Having said that - I want it NOW!!!

Power, torque and weight aren't the only factors in performance figures, especially 0-60, gearing plays a big part as well.

To be honest, as I was used to 698cc (with turbo of course), I think even if they have not under rated what the 1.6 Ti VCT is capable of and it is 9.9sec 0-62 I am sure it will still feel like a sports car to me
