Torque - Cant Connect To Ecu Fix

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

So I have seen a few people who have mentioned that they have had issues with Torque and recently I had the same! got nervous I had broke something, fortunately I have a nexus 7 at home which I used to check the adapter and comms and confirmed that was all fine!

So the issue I had was trying to connect to Torque - it kept trying and trying and would never succeed. I tried many things such as deleting and repairing the OBD adapter, uninstalling and reinstalling Torque and had no joy. By the end I got fedup and though I would start the phone afresh, but thought I would back it up in case something brown and smelly hit the fan!

You need to root the phone for this, so if your worried about your warranty, this isnt for you, but its not as scary as it sounds!

So, I rooted my phone (very easy process for me but your phones may differ) using framaroot, downloaded the apk from a google search installed, and let it work its magic. then installed a couple of things: Clockword Mod Recovery (ROM Manager) and also Nandroid Online. Granted both of these superuser status, and started off by backing up with nandroid, then when that completed, I went and reset the phone into recovery mode.

For those who dont know how to do this, you take the battery out and put it back in, then you turn the phone on and hold either the up volume key, or the down volume key and dont let go till your in recovery mode.

Then you go to backup user data, set it off and leave it for as long as it needs. Dont worry if it looks like its not working, it is in the background.

I then went back to recovery and did a factory reset, thinking I would need to build my phone up again, I logged in, downloaded the key apps (FOC, TORQUE, and a couple of other small apps) connected the phone to the car and all worked again! As many of you will know though, not always does Android after this process automatically reinstall all your programs, so I repeated the above process, backed up the phone in its new and fresh state, and reverted back to the phone how it was before I started playing with it. The plan was to go through, pick all the apps I actually use (rather than the 360 apps that were all in my history, I could actually pick the ones I would use!). Whist I was there though, I started Torque up once again, and it immediately connected! seems that it reloaded the bluetooth stacks and refreshed it so it was back to factory without losing anything!

A nice easy process, took me a couple of hours of non committed playing (was at work at the time) and its all good to go!

So if you have this issue, then this is a good easy fix that so far seemed to work for me! if its any use to you, better still!
