St Vs Gti Mk7

Featured Replies

Amercian journalists experiences of both cars on the track.

Not very exciting but interesting to hear what they have to say...

"...it just doesn't have the feel that the ST does in terms of... just frantic, really high performance driving"

"significantly more body role than there is in the ST

Cheers

Nice vid. The fez does seem to attract approval from most if not all reviewers.

Interesting to watch. I won't be jealous of any Golf GTI owners after watching that :)

GTI? no way. Only golf I would even consider over the ST is the R.

Yes, now that I am jealous of. I was following one a couple of weeks ago that looked to be spirit blue, maybe VW are copying Ford's colours.

Yeah super fast, although choosing a golf R if I had to have a Golf is different to buying one if I was spending Golf R money, if you see what I mean. In which case I almost certainly wouldn't buy one, never liked the inverted snobbery of VW owners. That, and the fact the R looks as boring as every other golf :)

Yeah exactly, we can have just as much fun in our STs anyway :). For that kind of money you could get a second hand Nissan GTR, I think I know what I'd choose, at least if I wasn't thinking about the running costs.

I was surprised watchin the video, i expected the Golf to do better. I don't think it hade the diff though. I'd have a Golf GTI Performance Pack over an R , just becuase of the diff available on the GTI. I test drove the Golf R before I bought my fiesta, it was quick and competant but boring, launch control was a blast. However I also test drove the new Leon Cupra 280 (same diff as GTI with PP) and it was soo much more fun to drive so I'd suspect the GTI to be similar.

The end of the day though I ended up with the Fiesta ST because it makes me smile the most. I'd say the Leon is nearly as fun as the ST but the DSG ruined it, I had it on my old car and it does get boring, lightning quick and smooth though.

Cheers
