Hi help needed!

I have a mk2 focus and decided to blank of my egr valve. Everything was ok for a day or 2 but then lost power and engine management light came on. Cleared the fault code but still had lost of power. Decided to remove the blanking plate and too see if this fixes the problem, in 1st gear it was sluggish and in 2nd gear again sluggish then turbo would kick in. Went to give the engine a good thrash on motorway, lots and lots of smoke coming from exhaust then on way back home engine cut out and now won't start.

Any suggests on what it could be that is causing the engine not to start .

    Give the starter motor a good look at, even give it a "technical hit"!

    Thanks for your reply. I've managed to get the car going again, but there is lack of power when going through the gears. Don't think the turbo is kicking in. Any ideas what to look for.

    pop the bonnet, and get someone to give it a few revs, do you hear any whistling or rushing noise? could be either a broken / split pipe or a pipe has detached.
