I have a Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI, 08 plate.

Recently a "whooshing" like noise sounds when I put my foot on the accelerator and it's driving me insane. Initially it sounded like the fan that covers the width of the dashboard under the windscreen, however when I put my windows down and accelerate, I can hear the noise quite prominently as though it could be turbo related (although I am useless at the finer specifics of mechanics so I could well be wrong).

I'm taking into the garage tomorrow afternoon, but I was hopeful someone may be able to give me a heads up on what it could be / costs etc.

check all the rubber pipes for splits. The big rubber pipe that goes to the turbo
sometime spilt underneath so you cant see it :)

Yeah it sounds like a boost leak. As above, check/pull/bend/tug all pipes for anything obvious. Even really small pipes can make a lot of noise as the pressure is relatively quite high.

My 1.7 tdci focus estate titanium KKDA engine does something similar when warm/cold and revs are right changing gear, sounds like a dump valve but obviously don't have one fitted. 212556 miles its still going! Anyone point me towards the brake pedal and why its hissing topics how to fix id appreciate it sorry if in wrong spot! But defo a boost leaky pipe or breather pipe had other cars similar problems minus the noise but get checked as doesn't do the turbo any good!
