New Forest A31

Random question but I'm planning a trip to Bournemouth. Google maps is suggesting a route through the New Forest along the A31 but there are shorter routes bypassing this. Obviously from a satellite view it would appear a good drive through the forest. I've never been there before - any opinions or is it not that scenic?

    Yes that is the recognised route to Bournemouth and it is through the New Forest and can be picturesque at times. The A31 is a good A road and you will need to come off it and on to the A338 after you go through Ringwood and this road will take you South and into Bournemouth.

    Depends where you are coming from but it is the main route in to Dorset from Southampton direction.

    It probably is quite picturesque if you have not been down this way before, just a means to an end for us locals though, lol.

    It can be a car park during Friday rush hour just FYI.

    The A35 is probably the more scenic route through the New Forset IMO but it won't be as fast and can be more prone to traffic hotspots at certain times of day.
