New Headunit, Patch Lead Problems?

Featured Replies

I've recently become the owner of a 57 Plate Focus Estate (1.6 TDCI Ghia, if that makes any difference).

The car has the rounded Sony stereo (Example Image) fitted at the moment, no DAB and no Handsfree, so I wanted to fit my Pioneer DEH-7100BT, which has followed me across a few cars now.

Upon reading a few guides (Such as this one: http://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/ford-focus-mk2-5-2008-stereo-removal/) along with a few of the comments and forum posts which are out there, I was reassured all I needed was an Autoleads PC99-X50 cable and about 20 minutes.

£25 and a few days later, I'm the owner of said cable and a large hole in my dash. Unfortnately, after connecting everything back up, the Pioneer doesn't do anything, not even turn on.

From reading various bits and pieces posted around the web, I believe this may have something to do with quadlock connector using CANBUS to register being activated, rather than the traditional 12v signal? Is there any way I can verify this is the case? As I've found quite a few pin-out and wiring diagrams with regards to the connector, none of which actually match each other.

I'm also hoping if that is the case, there may be some way to secure a 12v feed from elsewhere, rather than spend an additional £45 on the Connects2 lead which is the only one I can find which is compatible with CANBUS systems.

Any assistance will be fantastic, as all I can find at the moment is a lot of conflicting information.

It sounds like you have the wrong adapter cable unfortunately. Yes it uses canbus and communication across the stereo is slightly diferent to a flat 12v power in, but it should still do the job if you have the correct hardware,

Put your old stereo in and check the wiring works correctly, make sure the GEM board fuse is not blown, then try refitting.

I'm still using the Sony headunit, so I know it still works. After hooking everything up to the Pioneer, I've always tested it before properly securing it back into the dash, when nothing worked, I've popped the Sony back in.

I've done this a few times, just to double check everything is working as it should be and to double/triple check I've connected the harnesses correctly (Though a quad-lock and ISO connector are rather difficult to get wrong)

The Sony headunit is decent enough, so I don't feel put out by having it installed, but my Pioneer has the added bonus of USB and Bluetooth handsfree, so I'd like to 'upgrade' in that respect. :)

yeah know what you mean.
